Paul Andrew "Andy" Pickens, age 58 of Snellville, Georgia, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Andy was the youngest surviving son of James Larry Pickens, Sr. and Melba Pickens Holbert. Andy was a self-employed entrepreneur. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1977, earned a bachelor of arts in education from the University of North Alabama, and was a life long member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Decatur. He was a beloved Husband, Brother, Uncle, and Son. Pickens was survived by his mother, Melba Pickens Holbert, step-father, Earl Holbert; sister, Katherine "Kathy" Louise Cown; nephew, Coleman Tyrus "Tye" Cown; and niece, Jamie Cown McFadden. The Pickens family will receive friends at Wages & Sons Funeral Home located at 1040 Main Street, in Stone Mountain on Saturday, April 22 from 4-8PM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 23 at 2PM at Wages & Sons Chapel, interment will follow at the Historic Hillendale Memorial Gardens in Lithonia.

  6. I was a classmate/teammate of Andy’s at Clarkston High School. Regrettably, I have not seen Andy in many years. As soon as I saw his picture on this website and his big smile, it was like time had stood still. Pickens vs Snoderly in the State Semi-Finals, best wrestling match ever. The old Grand Prix,Camero RS and Uncle Tom’s Tavern . All these and many more…….are memories that will last forever. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
