Rhoda Bette Burd

rhoda burd
Rhoda Bette Burd, age 86, passed away April 13, 2019. She is survived by her daughter and son, and her nephew, David Giebel, his wife Stacey and their three children, Matthew, Jack and Alison. Rhoda loved international travel. She pursued it with vigor and had a sense of adventure to explore the world, interact and get to know the people in remote geographies. For many years she sought out exotic locations, invited her friends to accompany her and had the goal of bringing back stories that would have made Ernst Hemingway wince. She told these stories on her lake front property. It was the scene of countless outdoor parties, barbecues, dances and relaxing moments for all her friends to enjoy. She needed people and people needed Rhoda. She was happiest when all her friends were present and they all listened to her escapades abroad. In return, her numerous friends had social affairs. Rhoda loved driving her white, convertible corvette over to her friends residences. It was a roadster that paralyzed all those as she passed.  Rhoda’s life was perpetually filled with the enjoyment of song, dance and good spirits. Many of her friends would have witnessed her gifted singing voice. In her younger years and as an adult, she was asked to sing at weddings and other events to share her gift. Rhoda was also an accomplished pianist and would play Chopin Minute Waltz as we all stood in amazement. For athletics Rhoda enjoyed tennis and played on organized teams for many years. Those teams would have experienced the architectural landscape of Rhoda’s backyard that she took so much pride in building and maintaining. The tennis teams would gather at her property on the lake after the tennis matches as she entertained them with food and drink while reminiscing over her tennis prowess. For many years she volunteered her time for a myriad of charitable causes. She was interested to help others change in order to be more successful. Her culture and behavior was selfless as she gave of herself to others and inspired them to be all they could be in life. Rhoda was a servant leader most of her life to do the right thing at the right time. She did it with elegance and decorum characteristic of state dinner protocol at the White House. Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10am-noon at Oakland Cemetery, 248 Oakland Avenue, SE Atlanta, GA. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Rhoda only once, for a lunch gathering at our mutual friend Swake Wells’ home, and Rhoda made an indelible impression with me immediately. I regret time ran out before I had more of it to get to know Rhoda fully. Rhoda was a class act, a fighter, a strong and formidable person. My thoughts are with her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

  2. I haven seen Rhoda since I moved to Kansas City in 2008 but I had the opportunity to know and even party with Rhoda. She was a classy lady and will be missed.

  3. Rhoda will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We will definitely remember all the fancy dinner parties that she hosted.

  4. Rhoda was my first friend, when I became a widow and she lit up my life. We had so much fun at the parties she gave and always had wonderful friends. I left Atlanta 13 years ago, but always tried to keep in touch with her. She will be sorely missed.

  5. I’m her cousin. I found this obituary by accident. One if my cousins and I are doing ancestry searched and I googled Rhoda. I’m so sorry for her immediate families loss. She was always ready for fun! God bless her soul and God bless her family.
