  3. Mr Ademola George Afonja (1957-2024)

Brendon Burchard had a near death experience at a tumultuous period of his life. He learnt to measure the quality of life by answering a 3 in-one question: Did you live, did you love, did you matter?

Demola moved in with his wife, Yomi, into Fountain Springville Estate in 2023. The US Marine would oftentimes explore the Sangotedo and Ogombo beaches, having drinks and laughs at sundown. In July, he religiously celebrated his birthday, throwing his doors open to his Methodist Boys High School Old Boys, friends, family and neighbours. There was always lots to eat and drink with music to fit the occasion…, *yes he lived fully!*āœ…

Now, Demola was a participative resident. He would call to clarify the needs of the Estate, privately and always sent a token for every cause. He expressed concern for the welfare of the Estate workers, he planned to donate insect repellant for the guards and electric brush cutter for the Estate… yes he loved openly!!*āœ…

On his passing, in December 2024, there was a spontaneous outpouring of grief in our Community, from Residents and Staff, to MBHS old boys, his USMC colleagues in Nigeria, family and friends. This was because, indeed he mattered, he made his community better, he made a difference to lives he touched.āœ…

To his wife, Yomi. To his daughter, Lola. Please be consoled in the fact that Demola Afonja lived fully, loved openly and made a difference to all whom he encountered in his 809 months life’s journey.

May the soul of this soft spoken, collaborative, generous, peaceable officer, gentleman, neighbour and jolly good fellow, rest in peace.

    Amen

Fountain Springville Owners & Residents Association
From the Fountain Springville Community, Lekki, Lagos.

  9. CandleImageA complete gentleman has gone to rest. The vacuum left behind cannot be replaced. We would meet again on the very day of resurrection when death, mourning and pain will be things of the past. John 5:29,29, Revelation 21:3-5. Continues to rest. Rest my brother. Good night!!! Rest!!!

  14. CandleImageBro kekere, you came, you saw, you conquered. O death! where is thy victory? We have lost a rare gem, a dear son in the clan of Afonja of (Olomoodo Compound), Iyaji. Words are not enough to pour our hearts here – Our son Ademola has a large heart he shoulders each n every family members responsibilities in his own little way even me an inlaw. He was gentle, meek. Words cannot quantify your kind deeds to the family. The bible says we should not pray for the dead because their works follows them. Our consolation is that you are resting in the blossom of our Lord Jesus Christ. May God uphold and comfort the family you left behind. With heavy heart we say: Adieu- odi’gba o di ojo Ajinde. Sun re o Omo Baba Iyaji
