It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Yarbray Norton, age 78, on September 18, 2024. Barbara, who left us peacefully surrounded by her loving family, was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, sister and friend. She was a remarkable woman known for her caring nature and generous spirit. Barbara was married for 38 beautiful years to her beloved husband, Phill, with whom she shared a life filled with love and laughter. Born into a large and loving family, she was the cherished sister to her many siblings, each of whom she held dear throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Yarbray, her sisters Joy Porter and Carolyn Davis, her grandson Phillip Mayo, and her beloved husband, Phillip M. Norton. She is survived by her children, son Leonard Norton; daughters, Amy Hilley (Clint), Abby Mayo (Robert) and Kimberly Ward (Shelley); Her grandchildren Emma, Cecelia, Quinn Hilley and Zack Mayo; Her brother Ronald Yarbray (Karen); Her sisters Sandra Golway and Lynn Becknell (Lee) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara was a devoted mother to her children. Her love for them was boundless, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them as they grew. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love extended not only to her children but also to her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. She was a guiding light in their lives, always ready with a listening ear and warm embrace.
Throughout her life, Barbara enjoyed the warmth of lifelong friendships and had a passion for reading. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and spent countless hours at softball fields, where she proudly supported Phill as he coached their daughters in the early years. Later, she delighted in attending her grandchildren’s events, always cheering them on with enthusiasm.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Barbara adored her many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Her kindness and generosity knew no limits , and she always made time for family gatherings, where laughter and love filled the air.
Barbara’s most treasured moments were those spent with her extended family and friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Her infectious laugh, warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Barbara’s legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering support will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her and continue to inspire us. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered as a pillar of our family and a true matriarch.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024 at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046 with the funeral service following the next day, Monday, September 23rd, 2024, 2:00 PM also at Wages & Sons Funeral Home. A burial will take place after the funeral at Gwinnett Memorial Park 925 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
