Carol Noel Manson: Dec. 30, 1930-Dec. 8, 2015
Carol Noel Manson was many things: World traveler, voracious reader, lover of opera and theater, sports fan, birder, lover of knowledge, master gardener, adventurer, daughter, mother, grandmother, and an example of what is best in humanity.
Carol Noel Manson passed away Dec. 8, 2015 after a brief illness.
Ms. Manson was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Portsmouth, Oh.
She and her mother moved to Columbus, where she attended North High School, and Ohio State University.
There she met Ted Manson, with whom she had three children.
A constant thirst for knowledge and a yen to know what’s “over the horizon” led her travel to more than 50 countries on all seven continents.
She was an avid sports fan. She loved The Olympics, PGA golf, her beloved Cincinnati Red, and her adopted teams, the Atlanta Braves and Hawks.
Ms. Manson’s adoration of opera and theater took her to New York, London, Santa Fe, Chicago and many other centers of culture.
She was director of General Services for American Red Cross in Atlanta for 14 years.
After her retirement from the ARC, her love of reading led her to work in several Atlanta-area bookstores.
Ms. Manson was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Lowe, and stepfather, John Lowe. She is survived, loved, and greatly missed by her sister, Shirley Cochran, children, Valerie, Stephanie and Philip Manson, and three grandchildren, Will, Jon and Sierra Manson.
A celebration of Ms. Manson’s life will be held from 7-9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 at OnStage Atlanta Theater; 2969 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, Ga. 30030.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, World Wildlife Federation, or Heifer International.
