Colonel Max Whaley US Army Retired, age 76 passed away January 20, 2015 at Emory University Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a BS in Chemistry and received his MBA from Tulane University in 1969. Max was a retired Army Chemical Corp. Officer. He completed several tours of Vietnam and Korea as well as reporting directly to US Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara. After retiring from the military Max had a 10 year career as Director of Human Resources. Max is survived by his wife of 56 years Pearl Whaley retired RN from DeKalb Medical Center. Daughter, Vicki Hobbs (Dave) Lawrenceville, Ga; son, Rusty Whaley (Angela) Birmingham, AL; son, Jeff Whaley (Lisa) Cumming, GA; Grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Lauren, Anna, Michael, Amber (Coley), Hannah, Great Grandson, Landyn. A Memorial Service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery at a later date. Contributions in Max’s name may be made to American Parkinson’s Disease Association, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
