Donald Henderson of Lawrenceville, Georgia went to his heavenly home July 4, 2018. Don was born October 23, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia to Lyman and Grace Henderson. He grew up in the area known as East Atlanta with his loving parents and three sisters, Carolyn, Betty and Joan and graduated from Murphy High School. Don was an excellent baseball player and played on a minor league team traveling the United States in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and even signed a major league contract. Upon returning home from his baseball days he met and married Sally Jerrene “Jerry” Snell, and they raised a close knit family of three children in Tucker, GA. Don worked for General Motors Parts Warehouse in Doraville and retired after 30 years of service. During their wonderful family days Don coached Little League baseball and youth football. Don accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young boy, walking to church each Sunday with his family attending Martha Brown United Methodist Church in East Atlanta, and as an adult was a longtime member of Glover Baptist Church in Norcross and later Rockbridge Baptist Church. He served in both churches in various volunteer service projects including making many home calls for the congregation and teaching Sunday School. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating and was an ardent dog lover. He and Jerry were married 60 years. Surviving family members include wife Jerrene Henderson of Lawrenceville, sister and brother in-law Carolyn and Keith Ward of Oakwood, GA, Sister Joan Henderson of Ormond Beach FL, Son and daughter in Law Greg and Shari Henderson of Westminster, SC, Daughter and Son In Law Donna and Gary Davis of Orange Beach AL, Daughter and Son in Law Sharon and Bruce Sabin of Charleston SC, Grandchildren Joe Henderson, Jaimee Hingerton, Amanda Cornelison, Tyler and Reagan Davis, Jessica and Deanna Zecchino, Laurin Thompson, Beau and Quin Davis, and 7 great grandchildren, nieces Alisa Garner and Kim Russell and nephew Alan Ward. Preceding Don in death are his parents Lyman and Grace Henderson, Sister and brother in law Betty and Mike Hamilton. A celebration of his life will be held at Rockbridge Baptist Church July 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Memorial donations in honor of Don’s life may be made to Rockbridge Baptist Church, 1012 Rockbridge Rd NW, Norcross, GA 30093
