  5. My prayers and deepest condolences to Doug’s family. I only knew him through Facebook and our Brothers of the Phin group for Submariners. We interacted pretty much every day. I was completely shocked to hear of his passing, I will miss his wisdom and wit so much.
Since I posted news of his passing in Brothers of the Phin, there have been 474 reactions to the post and 93 responses voiced by fellow Submariners, some who served with Doug.
Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate. Rest your oar, we have the watch.

  6. Doug was a shipmate on USS GW Carver SSBN 656. He helped me to qualify. A man you could count on. I Was so glad we were able to renew contact via Facebook. My condolences to all family and friends.

  10. Doug was a good friend. Will miss him dearly. There will be an emptiness in my heart. I will miss his FaceTime calls, messages, and Facebook posts. Farewell good friend. This is not goodbye, but rather “Till we meet again”. Love you, brother.

  11. Doug,
going to miss our conversations about Submarine life. Looks as if I’m going to be lost without my big Brother looking over my shoulder. I want know how to act without you Facebooking me about our vacations and just life in general. Your a good friend who will be missed by me. It’s not goodbye but until we meet again.

  12. Doug was a true Submariner. As one of the lower ranking crew members working on “Quals”, Doug was supportive as both a mentor and a shipmate. I was very happy to re-connect with him through FaceBook. May he rest in peace. My prayers are with his family.

  13. Liz,

Praying for strength and comfort for you and the family during this difficult time. Although I never personally met Doug, I remember all the times we shared “husband” stories and laughed. Love with you always.
