Born in: Chicopee, Massachusetts
Resided in: Lawrenceville, Georgia

Evelyn Alice Santon, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at her home in Lawrenceville, GA. She was born on February 17, 1931, in Chicopee, MA to the late Pauline and Martin Jarosz. Upon graduating from Chicopee High School, she worked for the Chicopee Herald and the Northampton radio station, WHMP, as a copy writer. After raising her three children, she returned to work at Cooley Dickinson Hospital as a unit secretary. She retired after 25 years and many of her co-workers became life-long friends.

She married Eugene Thomas Santon in 1953 and they shared 35 years together in Northampton, MA until his death in 1988. They enjoyed dancing, travel, and just sitting together watching television at the end of the day (with a Manhattan nearby). Evelyn was a member of the St. John Cantius and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Churches. She lived another 33 years in the house on Day Avenue until she moved to Georgia in March 2021 to be with family and escape the cold weather.

Family vacations included trips all over New England in the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, always starting with a tailgate picture of the kids in the back. Destinations included the Cape, Maine, Lake Winnipesaukee, and the NY World’s Fair. Later, it was Hawaii, Aruba, and the Vineyard.

For Evelyn, family always came first. There were frequent trips to Los Angeles and Atlanta for grandparents’ days, birthdays, and graduations. Evelyn was an excellent seamstress and knitter. Hand-sewn dresses and matching coats for Easter, Halloween costumes, and prom gowns. Everyone—spouses, grandkids and great grandkids got their own hand-knit Christmas stocking. Evelyn encouraged each of her children to follow their own path and was in constant contact through visits, calls and texts.

Evelyn is survived by her brother, Stanley, her children (Susan, Nancy, and Mark), four grandchildren (Andrew, Patrick, Julia, and Jaris), and two great-grandchildren (Lucy Evelyn and Darren).

Despite reaching 91, Evelyn never seemed old. She loved her iPad; she enjoyed playing word games and keeping up with local news. She also never missed a Red Sox or Patriots game. She lived a wonderful life, but anyone who knew her still wanted more time.

A memorial service and celebration of life will occur in Northampton, MA later this spring.

  1. Mrs Santon was a great lady and always had a twinkle in her eye as she watched the “trouble” the local boys got into with Mark. One thing is for sure, she was always there for us. She will be missed.
