gordon wade

April 23, 1922 ~ May 1, 2021

Born in: Stone Mountain, Georgia
Resided in: Hoschton, Georgia

Gordon Tarlton Wade, age 99, of Hoschton, GA, passed peacefully on May 1, 2021 surrounded by his children.

Mr. Wade was born April 23, 1922 to Willie and Mattie Wade of DeKalb County, Georgia. He was the only boy in the middle of four sisters. Mr. Wade served in the US Army both in World War II and the Korean War in Logistics as a Sergeant Major. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation medal for outstanding service to his country. He retired from Norfolk Southern, formerly Southern Railway, after 43 years of service. In addition to that full time position, what began as a temporary job to help with Christmas one winter, turned into a 26-year part-time career and another retirement from the credit department of Sears. Anyone who knew him, however, would have to say that he felt his most important job was being a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, a job he successfully accomplished. There was nothing he enjoyed more than being around his family.

Gordon is preceded in death by his beautiful and devoted wife of 70 years, Stella Green Wade, his loving grandson, Daniel Wade Lee, his parents and his four sisters, Catherine, Connie, Lois, and Gladys.

He is survived by his son Scott G. Wade (Denise) and his daughters Debbie Wade Lee and Annette Wade Lawler (Jesse); grandchildren: Dionitia Lee Cornell (Bill), David W. Lee, Jr. (Kristin), Clint S. Wade (Megan), Heather N. Wade, and Lennox A. Lawler; and great- grandchildren: Alex Cornell, Savannah Cornell, Jackson Lee, Sawyer Lee, Stella Kate Wade and Presley Wade.

The family will accept friends and family at a visitation held at Avondale First Baptist Church, Avondale Estates, GA on Monday, May 10 th at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will take place at noon. 4. CandleImageSorry to Debbie, Scott, and Annette and the extended family for your loss. Uncle Gordan was a great Uncle. I really enjoyed coming over to Uncle Gordan’s and Aunt Stella’s house and growing up with all you guys. We have so many wonderful memories together. It comforts our heart to know Uncle Gordan will be in heaven with Aunt Stella in peace. It is never easy losing your parents but what a wonderful life they lived and what a beautiful family they created. Love Terry and Annmarie.
