Major (ret.) Harold “Hal” William Chafin, 81, longtime resident of Huntsville, Al died on 12/20/18. He was preceded in death by his father Wyatt Brown Chafin, mother Gladys Smith Manders, and brothers Billy Wayne Chafin, Sr. & Jerry Chafin, sister Vivian Chafin Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Shelma Marlene Cook Chafin, and children Andrea “Andee” (David) Chafin Gay, Todd Brian Chafin, Brett (Valerie) Christian Chafin; grandchildren Kelsey Gay & Dalton Gay; Alyson & Madilyn Chafin; Kyrsten (Cody) Johnson, Caty Mooneyham (Colby) ; great-grandchildren Kayleigh & Jackson Johnson, as well as sisters Sarah Hale, Doris (Bobby) Coker, Jeannette (Boyd) Martin, & Brenda Ashley. His funeral service will be held Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 3 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville. Visitation will be Saturday December 22 from 2-4 at Wages & Sons Funeral Home. He will be buried at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA. There will further be a memorial in Huntsville, AL time & place TBD. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Gary Sinise Foundation for American Veterans and their families.
