Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Uncle Penn, I will always remember how special you made my childhood and young adulthood, and protected me and my siblings. I will also remember how low you could go under the limbo stick, how you loved life, and how you lived life to the fullest. May GOD the Almighty Father have mercy on your soul forgive you of your sins and welcome you into his Kingdom, and may Jesus Christ our Savior and the Angels guide you safely home. I love you, Allison, your niece.

  2. Danette, Joan, Gregory, Michael, Junie, Toco, and the others, I would like to express my deepest sympaties on the passing your beloved Hugo Penn. May the Lord comfort and console you through the grieving process. God bless. Love, Allison.

  3. In life we are only a candle in the wind. The word of God says let your light shine before men and that you did. Your presence were ever known weather happy or sad. You said what was on your mind, no one had to guess what you were thinking. I have visited you and thou you wasn’t the young outgoing whip as in your day you remained the same grandpa we knew. As the journey of life is now over you have Transitioned to no pain, no suffering, and no more joy unto meet with the King. Rest until that day the trumpet sounds that you will arise with wings.

  4. When you speak of him speak not with tears for thoughts of him should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort for his life was rich because of you.

  5. We the employees at the Lilburn Post Office will keep you and your family in our prayer. Keep your head up and remember God don’t make mistakes. Grieving will not last always but joy will come in the morning. We’re your Postal Family and we are here for you during this time of need. May God continue to bless you.

  6. Sending love, peace and comfort to my friend Dannette Penn-Marsh and family you all have my sincere condolences! “Blessed to those who morn, for they shall Be comforted” love your Sis Penn-Marsh ????????????!

  7. My condolences to the family. Always remember that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal and look to the hill from which cometh your help, your help cometh from the Lord who makes heaven and earth. Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. You are in my thought and prayers. Blesssed are they that mourn, I know your heart are heavy right now but God is able to comfort you.
I love you guys but God is love.
    Rest in peace Uncle Penn

    God bless

  9. Danette and the Penn Family. My sincere condolences to you and may the peace of God be with you all. Danette from the first day I met you I knew that you had the heart of a loving mother and daughter. Family first is a very good description for you. You are one of the strongest women I have met. May this strength be an example as you continue to be the play maker and the glue that keeps your family together. May the soul of Mr Penn Rest In Peace.

  10. I remember when Hugo and Danet would visit us in Savan on their day trips. I remember my brother at mother’s funeral, at the post office in Frenchtown. I can see him in all those places. Gary remembers when he would meet him up in St. Croix. He had a generous heart and was very caring. I witnessed how close he was to Danet and she to her father. Matthew 5 v. 4 says, Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. God comfort and strengthen each of you in this difficult time. You are in my prayers. Much love, Cora (sister) and Family

  11. Wishing you peace to bring comfort courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your heart. Rest in peace uncle Penn.

Even though Hugo has been retired from the Postal Service for quite a while, I remember him as being an awesome coworker, always helpful and fun to be around. I have very fond memories of him, as I am sure that you do as well. I pray that you will always cherish and find comfort in those wonderful memories. May he rest in everlasting peace.

  23. Grandpa I’m very appreciative for the love and guidance. Many kind words as well as scrutiny but it was always to stair me in the direction to be the best person I could be. We’re all witnesses to what a man should grow up to be as a husband, father, grandfather etc. but most important a role model. You treated anyone that came around your family no less than family. Gramps you will be missed greatly but the love you shared will stick for eternity!! Love you and continue to guide us through this journey called life. ????????????????✊????

  24. Sarge, you’ve got great timing reporting in at this time with fellow warrior Mc Cain. You are joining the great military chefs on the other side. May you be well received in everlasting peace by the waiting arms of our Lord & Savior!!! Condolences to the family from your Army and National Guard Family on St. Croix. RIP Super Sarge!! Always loved your cooking!!!

  25. I sit here in disbelief as I write this tribute because I always say to Danette, “Hugo ain’t going anywhere, he doesn’t want anyone else looking after you and Aunt Joan”.

■HUGO PENN, affectionately known as Daddy Penn to many of us in our neighborhood was an extraordinary man.
Daddy Penn, the protective dad not only to his biological children, served us in many capacities.
Daddy Penn the mechanic to whomever was in dire need of one.
Daddy Penn the Mailman, whenever his supervisors at the Post office needed him to be.
Daddy Penn the Cook, he was a cook with the Virgin Islands National Guard but was always willing to whip up a dish for our beach parties. (I remembered I never liked potato salad until one day in 1990 he prepared the most beautifully garnished bowl of potato salad that tasted as good as it looked). That was the Hurricane Hugo potato salad.
Daddy Penn was a collector of cars- big cars… they were like yachts on the streets. He even had one with hydraulics and a corded phone!!!!
But one of my favorite traits of this extraordinary man was his ability to put an outfit together. The shirt had to be the same color as the belt and the shoes. It was that was or NO WAY!!!
Hugo, Daddy Penn you will definitely be missed.

LOVE YOU NOW — LOVED YOU THEN

  26. I have been fortunate to have been embraced, welcomed and accepted by you. You were like a father to me. I am going to miss walking by and seeing you sitting on the porch and me stopping in to have our little chitchat. I remember the fun times when you would go off referring to yourself as the RENEGADE!!
You always looked out for my sons, Kemo and Keo.
Rest in peace Daddy Penn, until we meet again.
    From Lorraine ,
    Kemo and Keo

  27. My deepest condolences and my prayers are with you, Danette ,Aunt Joan, Toko and the family. He”ll be awaiting you on the other side. God bless .

  28. My fondest memory of Hugo is when him and my aunt Rita, whom were inseparable living in Waterghaut, decided to take me and my sisters out with them. Of course being children we were more than happy to hang out with Hugo and Aunt Rita, not knowing what was in store for us later. We went to Birdland in Fredericksted and then to the club around the bottom of Morning Star Hill on the road toMon Bijou. We’re happy cause we clubbing. Well we this this 3 more times and me,being the youngest wanted to go home , cause I’m sleepy. When we finally got home around 3 A. M there was my mother in the middle of the road waiting for us. Hugo and Rita put us out of the car and sped off leaving us to explain to Mommy where we were.
So Hugo, Rita waiting on you for some more shenanigans.

  29. Danet, I feel the pain that you and your family are going through, but I hope you find some comfort in knowing that others are thinking if you. Thank you for allowing me to visit with Mr. Penn in late June. I was thrilled that he remembered me from our working in PR. May God bless and strengthen you all.

  30. Dannette ,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your Daddy. Please know that I am praying for you and your family to have peace and comfort during this difficult time. I am sorry that I never go a chance to meet your Dad, it appears that I have truly missed a jewel!

  31. R.I.E.P Hugo H. Penn from your brother Bennet Penn and I (your niece). Dad will continue to tell me all about you. I wish I had gotten the chance to know you. May God strength your wife, children and the rest of our family and your friends amen

  32. My sincere condolences to his loved ones. May they find comfort during this difficult time. The days of me sitting on the porch and Hugo cracking jokes or even cooking his delicious meals is what I’ll remember about him the most. Fly high you’re now free and you’re now in the arms of the master.

  33. Sarge, just got word of your passing and although you have been gone for sometime, the sadness I feel is not diminished. Thanks for the meals, the mail and your counsel to a young 2LT. May your family take comfort in knowing that you took care of many others, during IDT. Blessings to you and the family members you left behind.
