Resided in: Lawrenceville, GA

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Joseph Willis Brand, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on November 12, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on January 8, 1940, in Lawrenceville, GA, Joe was a lifelong Gwinnett County resident who embodied warmth, humor, and a steadfast dedication to family and community.

Joe graduated from Central Gwinnett High School before proudly serving in the Army and National Guard from 1963 to 1969. A devout member of Hebron Baptist Church, Joe sang in the church choir and brought joy to others through his faith and service. He was also widely known for his love of gardening and the legendary “Papa Joe’s Tomatoes,” sharing his harvest and heart with family, friends, and neighbors.

A natural storyteller, Joe loved entertaining those around him, his laughter and infectious energy lighting up any room. He was an entrepreneur in the grocery and gas station business and later a realtor, working alongside his beloved wife, the late Mary Jalaine Brand. Joe’s heart belonged entirely to Jalaine, and he spent the past year honoring her memory, keeping her spirit alive for their family. His commitment to her was a testament to the love they shared, and he filled these recent months with stories, laughter, and remembrance.

Joe is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jalaine Brand; his parents, Myrtie and Cliff Brand; his brother, Charles Brand; and his sister, Carolyn Ray. He leaves behind his loving children, daughter Kim Branch (Tom) and son Keith Brand (Shannon); his cherished sister Nancy Billew and brother Sonny Brand (Rosalyn); 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family who will miss him dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Gwinnett Memorial Park, 925 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to White Plains Baptist Church in Jefferson, GA, benefiting the youth department. Donations can be made to the “Joe Brand Memorial Fund for Youth Ministry” in the optional comments.

Joe will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love of family, and his gift for making others feel loved and special. His legacy will live on in the laughter, memories, and kindness he leaves behind.
