Born in: Chattanooga, TN
Resided in: Atlanta, GA

Mary Ann Neale of Atlanta, Georgia went to be with her Lord and family on April 28, 2015. Born on August 12, 1933, she was raised in Chattanooga. She was a graduate of Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga and the University of Georgia. She was a former headmaster at Bright’s School in Chattanooga and a long-time middle school teacher in the Atlanta area. After retirement from the Fulton County School System, she continued her ministry by teaching ESL to adults. As her Southern friends and family put it, Mary Ann was a “piece of work”. She had a passion for the written word, music, the performing arts, and travel. Reading to children was a very important part of her life. She sang in several choirs, among them the Robert Shaw Chorale in Atlanta. She played the piano up to the time of her passing, the latest as accompaniment to the chorus at Brookdale Dunwoody Senior Living, where she lived. After major health problems, Mary Ann realized that God had granted her “extra time” here on earth. Although confined to a wheelchair, she made the most of every day. Her passion and energy will be missed by her family and her many friends. A celebration of life service will be held at St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19th. Memorial contributions may be made to one of the following: • The Society of Saint Anna the Prophet: 1223 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, GA 30307 • The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: P.O. Box 9031, Pittsfield, MA 01202-9031 • St. Philip’s Cathedral: 2744 Peachtree Rd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30305
