Born in: Lafayette, Indiana
Resided in: Snellville, Georgia

Mary Brenner was born in Lafayette, Indiana on February 7, 1931.

She grew up in Indiana with her parents, brother, and sister.

When she was 4, her father, Fred Brenner, died in a farming accident while trying to help a neighbor. Her mother, Tillie Plantenga Brenner, contracted polio and was partially crippled. Her mother helped raise the children and also introduced Mary to her faith in God as they attended a local church.

After graduating high school, Mary attended a Halloween party where she met Harry Jensen, a soon to graduate engineer from Purdue University. After dating for one year, on June 10, 1951, Harry graduated from Purdue University, and they were married the following day, June 11, 1951. The next day they moved to Duluth Minnesota, where Harry began working for US Steel.

In Duluth, both Harry and Mary became very involved in the First Presbyterian Church where Harry and Mary sang in the choir. Soon they started a family of one girl, Carol, and two sons, John and Jim.

In 1963 they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they attended The Covenant Church, and both were involved in teaching Sunday School.

In 1967 they moved to Quincy, Illinois, where they attended Calvary Baptist Church and continued teaching and singing while continuing to raise their family.

In 1973 they moved to Dayton, Ohio and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, continuing their service to others. Mary also served as a volunteer at the Beavercreek Senior Center.

Everywhere Mary went she was always known as a loving, giving, engaging, compassionate person who caringly helped others. Sometimes it was with food, sometimes with a knit cap. For many years Mary knit caps for babies and donated them to Samaritan’s Purse.

Mary enjoyed knitting and walking and sometimes was able to walk further than her neighbors and even some children. Her favorite color was purple.

Above all, Mary loved to read her Bible and pray for those around her, something that will be missed by all who knew her. Her faith in the Lord was very real and her love radiated all around her.

Mary passed from this life to heaven on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 and preceded her husband of 70 years, Harry James Jensen, her three children, Carol, John, and Jim, plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
