Raymond W. Hicks, Jr., age 84, of Stone Mountain, Georgia passed away Friday, April 20, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Gouge Hicks; children, Deborah Drummond, Keith Hicks and wife Sandy, and Denise Hicks; grandchildren, Paige Davis and husband Brent, Ross Drummond, Jennifer Morrissey and husband Noah, and Katherine Hicks. Mr. Hicks served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He retired from BellSouth after 46 years of service. He was past President of the Southern Bell Telephone Pioneers and was a member and past President of the Silver Wings Fraternity. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Wages & Sons Stone Mountain Chapel. Interment will follow in Stone Mountain Cemetery. Mrs. Hicks: Even though I never met you, I would like to say that in my opinion and the way he smiled when talking about you,that you and Raymond had 61 yrs. together minus his time away from Atlana to serve his Country in time of war He also talked well of your children. Gloria and I are saddened to learn of Ray’s passing. We admired his business-like approach while he served as President of the Silver Wings Fraternity. We will miss his friendship as will many others in the Silver Wings Group. We never had the opportunity to meet you Betty but did meet your son and heard many wonderful things about your daughters. A long time friend and I have fond memories, and will miss him.
Raymond befriended me the first time I visited a Silver Wings lunch. He was an inspiration and was always interested in my flight activities.
I was saddened to learn of his passing and will miss him at our meetings.
We are saddened to hear of His passing and we send condolences to the Family. We truly feel that we have lost a very good friend. We shal miss him..
To the family of Mr. Hicks:
I wanted to offer my sincere condolence to all during this time of the loss of your loved one. During your time of reflection and meditation I hope you may be able to offer comfort to one another. Also, I wanted to offer a bit of encouragement from the Bible. When Jesus suffered the loss of a dear friend it really affected him. So much so it moved him to tears. However, he turned his attention to his friend’s surviving family members and reassured them of the hope for the future they had in common. Jesus was even moved to reverse the effect of their loss which brought genuine joy to all present. When you can, please read of this account at JOHN 11:5 to 45. I sincerely hope you too may find real comfort and happiness in this passage of scripture though you are suffering the loss of a loved one. Take care and please accept my sincere sympathy, with much affection and care to all.
We have lost one of the finest and most caring gentlemen of our time. There can be no replacement for the hole he has left. Condolences to all that knew and loved Raymond.
Raymond was a great friend to both me and my wife Pauline before she passed away. I will always remember the good times we had at the Silver Wings meetings and conventions. Raymond is in my prayers. All my best to all the family. Peter
I was very sad to hear of Mr. Hicks’ passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family.

So sorry to hear of Raymond’s passing. There was no one liked more than he was at Southern Bell. He was with me for a short while after he came into Traffice operating-you may remember we had dinner downtown, my wife Marianne and the Harrells-in 1962.
Much has happened since then.

Raymond and I worked together at Bellsouth as well as the Telephone Pioneers. I also worked with his sister Mildred. It was always a good time when we got together. He will be missed. The family has our prayers and sympathy.
