It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Carl Palmer, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left this world at the age of 91. Richard was born on November 8, 1931, in Walls County, Mississippi, and his legacy will forever live on through the hearts and memories of his family.
Richard was a loving father to his three children: Sunday Hollis, Richard “Doc” Palmer, and Lauren Palmer. He was a proud and doting grandfather to seven grandchildren and the delighted great-grandparent of seven great-grandchildren. His love and wisdom touched generations of his family.
As a dedicated professor at Emory University, Richard devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and education. He shared his expertise and passion with countless students over the years, leaving a lasting impact on the academic community. His commitment to teaching and learning enriched the lives of many.
In accordance with Richard’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, his family and loved ones will remember him in their own special and meaningful ways. As they reflect on his life, they will cherish the countless memories and the wisdom he shared.
I remember the week Sunday came home from her knee surgery. Whenever I was visiting, Poppa Palmer would come down to bring food to make sure Sunday was eating – lots of pea soup and sandwiches! His caring and love was always extended to me also, and I felt cherished as part of his family.
