Robert Bailey Coats

Robert Bailey Coats, Jr. (Bob), age 82, passed away at his home in Stone Mountain on Thursday, December 5, 2013, after brief hospice care. Bob was born in Fairfield, Alabama. He was the son of the late Robert and Hattie McLeod Coats. He was graduated from The University of Alabama and married Clarice Graves in 1952. After serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Federal Savings and Loan in Dothan, Alabama in the 70’s and early 80’s, he joined his son in founding Resource Healthcare of America, Inc. (“RHA”). RHA is a nonprofit corporation providing housing and healthcare to thousands of disabled individuals. Bob was National President of the Easter Seal Society and served for over 20 years on the Board of Directors of the Methodist Homes for the Aging. He was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clarice, sons Rob Coats (Melinda) and Bryant Coats (Evelyn), daughter Drue Ray (Allan) and seven grandchildren. Bob will be remembered at a memorial service at First United Methodist Church of Tucker on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. The family has designated Tucker United Methodist Church (5095 LaVista Road, Tucker, GA 30084), Shepherd Center (2020 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30309) and the National Easter Seal Society (233 South Wacker Drive, Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60606) for memorial contributions.
