Robert Irwin King, aged 77, went to heaven on November 4, 2024. He was born on November 9, 1946, to Alexander Dawson King and Fannie Lee Kenimer King in Nashville Tennessee.
‘Bob Irwin’ was a beloved Husband, Father and Friend. He was known for his quick and often sarcastic wit. He owned his own business, The King Group, for over 30 years and was a valuable resource for his many customers because of his in-depth knowledge of manufacturing equipment and use. He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He graduated from Florida State University in 1968 with a degree in Business Management. His passions included Florida State Sports, and professional landscaping. His yard always rivaled any photo in Southern Living. He loved to collect knives and watches and has a beautiful selection of both.
He was fiercely loyal and supportive of his children. He provided for every event, game, and piece of equipment or instrument required to see his children grow and follow their passions. He was often perceived as ‘gruff’ but this was only a ploy to protect his deeply sensitive heart. He made sure his family was safe and secure always.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter Meridith Matthews, her husband Phillip; his sons John King, his wife Rebecca and Robert “Bo” King. His grandchildren Sarah Shedd, Lewis Fleming, Jackson King and William “Will” King. His sister Mary Carolyn Davis (Howard) and her children Erin London (Dean), Howard Davis (Krimson), Ravyn Sikes (Joe), and Alicia Davis (Matt) along with their children Ben London, Elliot and Wallace Davis. Finally, many other family members, his Theta Chi fraternity brothers, and lifelong friends who were just like family to him.
Finally, he is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ladye Margaret King who he lost earlier this year in April. We rejoice and have faith they are reunited and are sitting on the porch together, catching up on the last 6 months apart while petting all the dogs in Heaven. Both are fully healed and fully present with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a no kill shelter of your choice.

Loss hurts in the moment but I pray that you focus on the memories so you can heal. He lives as long as you remember him.
What a loss for this world! I will miss our talks and our relationship. We always had a joke back and forth about his seminoles.
Thank you and Ladye for a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Go Noles!
Love and prayers for all of John’s family in this time of grief and loss. He is now in heaven, reunited with Layde with no pain, only heavenly happiness. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 😢🙏
Prayers and thoughts for the family during this difficult time in John’s passing. I didn’t have the privilege to know John personally, but I knew two of his children ( Meridith & John ) and therefore plenty of shared stories. Both of John’s children I know are kind, smart, vibrant and full of life. I can only imagine they inherited some of their fine traits from their Father. I know John left a remarkable legacy in his business and of course through his family on the planet that will continue to ripple for generations to come. My family and I will be praying for the family during this time of loss. God bless, Jeff Myers
Our deepest condolences
