Born in:
Statham, Georgia

Stone Mountain, Georgia
Roger Dial Foster went to his forever home with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Mercifully, the Lord took him into His presence about two months after a fall and then an infection that compromised his lungs. After 88 years of life and many years of faithfulness to his Savior and to his family, he has joined Linda, his wife of 64 years, in heaven.
Roger was born on March 3, 1936, in Statham, Georgia. Additionally, he lived in Tucson, Arizona; Greenville, South Carolina; Norcross, Georgia and Stone Mountain, Georgia.
He was the only son of John Sylvanus Foster and Nellie Mae Dial. Roger grew up on his dad’s 100-acre cotton farm across the road from the house in which he was born. Roger graduated from Statham High School in 1954 and from Bob Jones University with a degree in Practical Christian Training in 1959. In addition to his family roles, Roger worked at Kroger and then for thirty years at Dekalb County Health Department as an epidemiologist. In 1958 he completed his Air Force basic training in Texas and served in the Arizona National Guard and then the Air Force Reserves from 1959 until 1993 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He faithfully served in the 84th Aerial Port Squadron out of Greenville and Charleston, SC which loaded military cargo planes.
He delighted in traveling the U.S and the world with his wife. He visited 49 states and many foreign countries. He especially found joy in spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was an avid Braves fan. He also faithfully served as a deacon and AWANA leader and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He was known for his soft-spoken kindness, generosity and faithfulness in all that the Lord gave him to do.
He is survived by his children (and their spouses), Jeff (Joanna), Dena (Wayne), and Tim (Laura); by his grandchildren (and their spouses), Janae, Jillian (Tim), Jessica (Dan), Jamie, Westin (Kelly), Devan(Fiance Minh), Ella and Cavner; and his 8 great-grandchildren.
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? – Matt. 24:45
His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. – Matt. 25:21
Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. – I Cor. 4:2

We will miss you Roger but know we will be reunited in Heaven.
Dear Jeff, Dena, Tim and families,
We are praying for all of you at this time. We thank God for the times we spent with your Mom and Dad mostly at church services and enjoying fellowship at restaurants during our 60 plus years of friendship. May God bless you and give you His peace as you know your Mom and Dad are rejoicing together in Heaven.
Love and Prayers, Bill and Glenda Fancher
Thank you Brother Fancher. We cherish your friendship with our mom and dad. The Lord has given much strength and peace already and we appreciate your prayers for us.
Jeff
Jeff, Dena, Tim, and family,
We also will miss your Dad and Mom. They were dear sweet friends, always had encouraging words and a smile. I enjoyed reading about your Dad’s life above. I didn’t realize your folks traveled. I know they also really enjoyed eating at restaurants—they often recommend places they really enjoyed, and anytime I wondered about a restaurant I knew I could ask Roger. If he hadn’t been there he knew someone who had, so he could give dependable advice. My folks always admired your Mom and Dad and cherished their friendship. They’re all enjoying Heaven together!
Thank you, John. You summed up our dad pretty well with his love of eating out. 🙂 Your parents’ friendship, as well as the rest of your family has meant a lot to our family over the many years we’ve known you all.
I’ll always remember those Lake Lanier camping trips!! Your mom and dad were so sweet and so much fun!!
So grateful for all the good memories with Roger, Linda, and their children. For years, we spent at least a week tent camping on Lake Lanier each summer. We all grew up together. Time is passing by and how grateful we all can be that God will meet us in the end and we will be in His presence forever. Much love to Jeff, Dena, Tim and the whole family. Love you all.
Daniel
Thanks Daniel, well said! We didn’t know how good we had it. What great times and memories. Thanks so much for coming yesterday.
Tim
