Resided in: Lawrenceville, GA

Ronald Joe King of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away at home on October 18, 2023 surrounded by family.  He was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on June 6, 1939 to Virginia and Alfred King. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from West Portsmouth High School.  He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Following graduation in 1962 he married Carol Ann Carson and they moved to Maryland.

He began his career working for a defense contractor, Aircraft Armaments Inc., where he developed military training systems for which he was awarded his first patent.  In 1968 he began a 35-year career journey with NCR with stops in Cambridge, OH; Clemson, SC; and Atlanta, GA.  He was awarded 3 patents in the development of barcode scanning and weighing devices. He retired from NCR in 2003 as Director of Engineering in GA.

During their years in Clemson, SC,  Ron’s daughter enrolled and graduated from Clemson University, which began Ron’s lifetime patronage of all things Clemson Tigers.  For 40 years Clemson football meant family get-togethers with his daughter and granddaughters.

He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, and served as a member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville for over 30 years. He was a quiet and generous man.

In retirement Ron grew a passion for golf, cherishing the time with friends in the sun and fresh air.  He also enjoyed reading, yard work, and watching the Braves.

He is preceded in death by his father,  Alfred William King, mother Virginia Wilkens King, and sister Diane (John) Johnson all from Wapakoneta, OH.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Ann Carson King, his daughter Michelle King Hope (Doug) of Ringgold, GA; sister Elaine Nichols (Terry) of Columbus, OH; granddaughters Katie Hope DuFault (Sean) of West LaFayette, IN; Mallory Hope Coulter (Chris) of Winston-Salem, NC,  and Natalie Hope residing in Athens, GA; and great-grandchildren Kassidy, Kerrigan, and Greyson DuFault, and Cadence Coulter as well as several nieces and nephews.
