Robert Dayton Shafer, known fondly as "Robbie," 55, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away peacefully on May 4, 2013. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Dowell-Shafer. He is survived by his daughter, Katie Shafer, of Dallas, GA; father, Charles E. Shafer, of Alpharetta, GA; brothers, Charles E. Shafer, Jr. Janice of Loganville, GA; David H. Shafer Cindy of Cumming, GA; Gerald Shafer Suzanne of Grayson; and sister, Grace Shafer, of Asheville, NC, and several nieces and nephews, along with other family and many friends. Robert was born in Duluth, GA on May 24, 1957. He graduated from Berkmar High School in 1976. He was also a member of The Sweetwater Masonic Lodge No. 421. Robert was married to Nancy Tumlin Shafer on June 17, 1978. They were married for 18 years and had a daughter, Katie, whom he adored. Robert was the owner of Robert Shafer Construction for 30 years. His love for his craft and workmanship, passed down to him from generations of homebuilders, were evident in his many projects through the years. He enjoyed golfing, spending time at the beach and activities with family and friends. Robert was also a devoted UGA athletics supporter and avid Georgia Bulldog Fan. A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made, in memory of Robert, to The American Diabetes Association. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-4:00 pm, Saturday, May 11, at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, 770-277-4550.   4. I was lucky enough to know Robert for about two years we meet when were both on trips with our friends and we became fast friends, sharing stories of our lives. Robert was a good man anda good friend. He could always make you smile. He will be missed..

  7. Robert was one of the most generous, talented, hard working, and kindest individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We met through work, but he quickly became a close personal friend. We are just devastated to hear of Robert’s passing, but feel so lucky to have known him. We are keeping Katie and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

  9. We are so sad to hear of Robert’s sudden death. He was such an easy fellow to know and love; he always had time for a visit and he really cared about his craft and how he could make things work for us. Seldom, do I hear a man talk about his daughter as much, or as glowingly, as Robert spoke of Katie. He was SO proud of her and I know he would be proud of her now. We will remember him and continue to laugh at his stories. I wish we had known him longer.
