Resided in: Stone Mountain, Ga

Born in Keysville, Ga on May 31, 1929 Died in Stone Mtn., Ga on April 04, 2018 Our precious loving Mama ran up the stairs to Heaven today to be with our Daddy (Emmett). She left us all with broken hearts that will somehow still hold a lifetime of love and memories. She grew up, graduated high school, married Daddy and raised the three of us here in Stone Mountain. Her only occupation, until we were grown, was being 'Mama'. In later years up until she retired she was employed at the golf course Pro Shop in Stone Mountain Park, ran a small house-cleaning service and was a hostess for McDonald's up until she lost her left leg on June 06, 2006. Throughout these years she spent much of her free time at the park climbing the mountain, fishing or just sitting or watching all the people and taking in nature while she listened to Mabel play the Carillons. She loved going to craft festivals and made lots of different crafts just to keep busy...then she'd wait till the right person came along and give them her 'masterpiece' (along with all the love she'd put into it). And...We might be just a touch prejudiced but Mama was the absolute BEST cook in the world!! She would ALWAYS cook way too much (a misjudgement she would say) and everyone that ate would get a portion of the leftovers in a care package as they left to go home. But no matter what she was doing, you could pretty much bet Mama had an ice cold Coke in her hand or at least within reach!! Even though her "on-the-go" attitude towards life was dramatically changed when she lost her leg(s), we never once heard her complain and she never expected nor would she allow any special treatment from anyone. She was a fighter to the very end...Mrs. Independence! Mama had a very BIG heart and loved everyone unconditionally. She'd give anything or do anything for you--- no questions asked. She never knew a stranger and always would make time to talk (or listen) to any of us about anything! She was (#2)Mama to many of you... She took you under her wing and loved you just as she did us... So, you too are part of her living testimonial. We have ALL been so truly BLESSED Having written this very condensed tribute to our Mother, we know now that there is no paper, no computer, no flash-drive, no box or no vault nearly big enough to to even begin to hold almost 89 years' worth of our written thoughts & memories. But our hearts & minds have no boundaries -- we can continue to add more & more memories of more & more loved ones and they will be right there -- literally as a part of us -- FOR ALL ETERNITY... As we write this, Mama is being surrounded with & welcomed home by all her loved ones that left here before her... Her Mother & Father- Olivia & Alvin; Her Husband of 56yrs/Our Daddy- Emmett; Her Sister & Brother- Claire & Alvin; Brothers-in-law- Clyde, Milton, Henry, Waymon, Cary, Kermit; Sisters-in-law- Ila, Ava, Alice, Annie; Mama is survived by... Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Andrea I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember your Mama she made everyone feel welcomed at her house and was kind and had a smile on her face. God Bless!

  2. Aunt Vivian and Uncle Emmett have enriched my life in so many ways over the years. I remember wonderful dinners at the house and a turtle or two that Emmett caught that was on the menu. I always felt welcome in her home. The help offered by Vivian and Andrea when my mother transitioned into the nursing home was invaluable and something I will never forget. I am saddened by her passing and wish all ( Rhonda, Andrea and Andy) the very best. A whole generation has passed and left us “kids” to keep the torch lit. Love you all, Mike
