William Sam Ellison, Jr., 91, died peacefully on May 9, 2014 after a brief illness. Sam was born in Walhalla, S.C. and attended Clemson University. He served in the Army Air Corp as a flight instructor during WWII. Sam was an electrical engineer and worked on projects throughout the country and the Caribbean. He retired from Fischbach and Moore in 1995. Sam was an avid pilot throughout his life and was a member of the Silver Wings Fraternity. He was well known for his sense of humor and his ready willingness to help his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rebecca (Becky), his son William Sam Ellison, III of Raleigh, NC, his daughters Susan Webb (Bob) of Houston, TX, Pamela (David Herz) of Paonia, CO, Bambi Arnold (Mickey) of Atlanta and Washington, GA., 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Sam was one of the most respected bosses I ever worked for. I never had a better boss and friend ever in my life. I first met him in WV and later worked for him in West Texas. Good memories for sure.
