Kanaiyalal Dhulabhai Patel was born in Gozaria, India, in 1945. He began his career as a mathematics teacher in India, but he dreamed of greater opportunities and set his sights on coming to America. In 1969, he arrived in the United States determined to build a better future and pursue the American dream.
He settled in Gastonia, North Carolina, and later made Dillon, South Carolina his home. There, he proudly owned and operated the beloved Dixie Dream Motel for 21 years, earning the respect of the community as a dedicated and hardworking businessman.
After retiring, he moved to Atlanta to enjoy a well-earned slower pace of life. In retirement, he found great joy in gardening and took immense pride in watching his grandchildren grow, cherishing every moment spent with his family.
He will be remembered for his perseverance, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. His life journey — from India to America, from educator to business owner and family patriarch — stands as a testament to determination, resilience, and love.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Dharmistha; his two sons Paresh (Supal) and Ketan (Trusha); grandchildren, Mayan, Riya, Bela, and Jay Patel.
