Prabhavati Darji was born on July 21, 1950 to Prithvipal and Pushpaben Chauhan in Khambhat, Gujarat, India. She was the second of 6 children.

Prabhavati was proud to have graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat which was a college and campus she really loved. Determined to build a better life for herself, her husband Thakorbhai Darji and her 2 small children Jaykrishna and Hemangini, she aspired to settle in the United States of America. Her determination and desire was blessed and she arrived in New York, USA with her husband and young family on September 20, 1975. Together, Prabha and Thakorbhai built a beautiful life in America without ever forgetting their Indian roots, beliefs and culture. Prabha was known as Pam.

Prabha was a devotee of Lord Shiva and Shirdi Sai Baba. Since the age of 10, she would walk to the temple in Khambhat every day to offer bili patra. She enjoyed many pilgrimages to Shirdi, 12 Jyotirlings, 4 Puris, Ganga Saagar and trips to Europe and Egypt. She was fond of cooking, gardening, shopping and animals (especially cats). Throughout her life, she made friends everywhere she went as her personality was hospitable, humble, compassionate and generous.

Prabha was especially proud of her 3 beautiful granddaughters: Amisha, Henna and Simryn. Cooking for them and spending time with them was one of her favorite things to do.

Prabha means light or radiance which is symbolized by Goddess Laxmi (wealth) and Goddess Parvati (power) in the Hindu religion of which she was very devout. The light of our beloved Prabhavati diminished suddenly from us on Friday January 23, 2026. Words will never convey how much she was loved, admired and respected by friends and family. Even in our darkest times without her, we know her radiant spirit and light will guide the way.
