Zamira Sofia Alonso

Zamira Sofia Alonso, 86, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2026, surrounded by her daughters and loved ones. Zamira was born on September 30, 1939, in Camagüey, Cuba. In 1968, she came to the United States and began building a new life in Atlanta, Georgia. She retired from Wells Fargo bank after 25 years, traveled as often as she could, forming many lifelong friendships and memories along the way. Later in life, she made her home in Lawrenceville, where she was lovingly cared for by her dear friend and confidant, Ana Leyva.

Zamira was a woman with a big personality, a generous heart, and a wonderful sense of humor. She was artistic and creative, kind and loving, and never hesitated to help someone who needed her. Life was not always easy, but Zamira faced it with strength and her favorite philosophy: “One day at a time.” She loved her family deeply, both those in the United States and those she left behind in Cuba. Being surrounded by family and friends brought her great joy. She had a contagious laugh and a way of bringing warmth and energy wherever she went. She loved children and had a special gift for making them feel loved and welcome.

In her younger years, Zamira was an avid seamstress, and she carried her creativity with her throughout her life. She was also an excellent cook and took great pride in sharing good food with the people she loved. Although she never considered herself much of an animal person, animals seemed to have a special affection for her. And, for reasons no one could ever quite understand, she was absolutely terrified of frogs.

Some of Zamira’s happiest moments in her later years were spent with Ana’s granddaughters, Samantha, Bella, and Sailena. Their love, laughter, and energy brought her tremendous happiness and truly kept her young at heart. The three of them created countless memories that will be treasured by our family forever.

Zamira was preceded in death by her former husband, Manuel Albisu; her mother, Zoila Alvarez; her father, Jose Antonio Alonso; her brothers, Osnel, Vladimir, and Toni Alonso; her best friend, Migdalia; and her grandson, Michael Rivero.

She leaves behind her brother, Eliecer Alonso, and sister, Caridad Alonso; her loving daughters, Zoila Brunet (Alan), Zoe Bramlett (Scott), and Susana Albisu (Jimmy); her cherished grandchildren, Jasen (Shauna), Dakota Tester, and Addison Tester (Rivaldo); and her great-grandson, Aiden Rivero.

She also leaves behind friends who became family, especially Ana Leyva, who was her beloved friend and confidant for many years and later became her devoted caregiver. Anisabel, her daughter, along with her girls Samantha and Sailena, also became an important part of Zamira’s family and filled her final years with love, laughter, and companionship.

Zamira’s life touched many people. She was strong, funny, creative, loving, and wonderfully herself. She will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the laughter she shared, the help she freely gave, the meals she prepared, the stories she told, and the love she gave so generously to her family and friends.

At Zamira’s specific request, her ashes will be laid to rest in a place where beautiful flowers grow.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Zamira will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
