Beatrice S. Dickens

March 28, 1940 — December 26, 2022

Beatrice Sylvia Dickens was born in Long Road, St. Mary (Jamaica) on March 28, 1940, to Lionel and Mildred Hird, and was the firstborn of identical twins. She departed this earthly life on December 26, 2022, at the age of 82.

Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Horace, twin sister, Myrtle, and brothers Ira and Foster. She is survived by her five children,Rosemarie, Cherryl, Coleen, Vivienne, and Veneisha. Grandchildren; Andre, Chandelle, Talisa, and Yohance. Great Grandchildren, Essence, Ayanna, and Nassir. She has one last surviving sibling, Gloria; Sons-inLaw; Richard, Errol, Ronald and a host of extended family and friends.

Beatrice always had a passion for education. After graduating from the Long Road All-Age School in St. Mary, Jamaica, she pursued a career path in education and was a teacher at the Woodford All-Age, Hagley Park SDA, and Hope View Schools for over 25 years.

She married the love of her life, Horace Dickens on July 22, 1962. They were married for 52 years and could only be separated by death.

Beatrice was a second-generation Seventh-day Adventist who had an unquenchable thirst for doing the Lord’s work. She was a member of the Trench Town SDA Church for many years before relocating to Portmore, St Catherine, JA, where she answered the call and became an ardent member of the Newland SDA Church. There she served faithfully as a Sabbath School Superintendent, Choir member, and Community Services Director. She loved the Lord and followed His example; caring for the sick, feeding the hungry, and providing for the poor. Her legacy will live on forever. She chose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us.

Beatrice has earned her rest. Today, we mourn her loss, but not as those without hope. For we look forward to a better day when we will be reunited with our dear mother, never to part again. This is our blessed hope in Jesus Christ.
