Billy Wilson Carter 01/24/1937 – 01/24/2017
Carter, Bill Wilson (Billy) passed on his birthday January 24, 2017 at age 80. After an extraordinary battle with Myeloma Cancer for 7 years, he left this earth on his terms as usual. He fought to make it to his 80th birthday, passed in an old birthing room of Crawford Long Memorial hospital (now Hospice/Emory) and did it while no one was watching. He was truly an amazing man all the way through the 4th quarter.
Bill was a basketball player, graduate and coach at Oglethorpe University. His passion for Oglethorpe never diminished. He always had the Stormy Petrel spirit in his heart. During his struggles with Cancer, he became very passionate about St. Jude’s Hospital late in life. In lieu of flowers, please donate there for those children that may have touched him or he may have touched.
Throughout his life, Bill was an accomplished Businessman, Real Estate Company owner and Attorney. Without doubt or hesitation, he managed to touch the lives of many people over the years. He was a magnet that drew people into his world because of his ability to make you feel welcome, work hard, have fun and love life. He will truly be missed by many and remembered by all…
Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife Susan Jewell Carter; his children Kelly, Stacy, Lance and Ashly; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins; and all those that have been touched by his spirit for life. May the peace of our Lord and the remembrance of this great man sooth the souls of all in the years to follow.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
