Carolann Brown Churins
Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1946 to Robert and Helen Brown, Ms. Churins was a graduate of Rahway High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Head Majorette and Twirler for her High School Marching Band. Ms. Churins graduated from Trenton State College The College of New Jersey, received a master's degree from the University of West Florida and advanced study certificates from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, University of Southern Maine and Rutgers University. She began her career as the Director of Reading Clinics for the Department of Education in Corpus Christi, Texas. After relocation to Maine, Ms. Churins established a respected career in marketing, communications and human resources in the field of Engineering Research and Development. In 2011, Ms. Churins retired from Sarnoff Corporation in Princeton, NJ as the Vice President of Administration with responsibilities for human resources, quality, safety, security, facilities and facilities engineering. Upon retirement, she relocated to Roswell, Georgia.
Ms. Churins was an avid gardener, working with all types of plants including northern and southern horticulture. At her home in Woolwich, Maine, she canned and preserved many homegrown vegetables, fruits and berries to the delight of family and friends. In addition to gardening, her interests included competitive swimming, needlework, reading, hiking and sailing. She was a longtime volunteer and official for the Long Reach Swim Team in Bath, Maine. Most recently, she was the "swim taxi" for her granddaughter to her competitive swimming events.
Ms. Churins is survived by her mother, Helen Brown who lived with her in Roswell, GA, her daughter and her husband, Allyson and John Ross and her son, Jonathan Churins and his wife Gwen Saylor. She is also survived by her sister Bobbie Brown-Rowles, her special cousins, niece, nephew and devoted friends and her beloved granddaughter, Amber Marie Ross.
