James Lewis Mills, 61, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 22, 2019. Jim was born on December 26, 1957 in Birmingham, Alabama to Charles and Bettye Mills.
He married his best friend and sweetheart Donna on June 14, 1981 and together they raised two beautiful daughters and have two wonderful grandchildren.
He attended multiple colleges and universities through the years and received a degree in Christian Studies from Luther Rice College and Seminary in 2011.
He worked professionally in the Information Technology field for more than 30 years before retiring to devote himself full-time to Christian service. Since then he has been a Sunday School Director, Worship Leader, the Pastor of a small congregation in the suburbs of Atlanta, and most recently the Founder and Pastor of UpStream Ministries, an online non-profit dedicated to sharing the Gospel message with the world.
Jim had a passion for telling people about the hope that could only be found in Jesus Christ. In fact, in our sorrow and suffering over his recent passing, it is this lasting hope that gives us comfort and peace, knowing we will one day see him again.
He was a wonderful and loving man who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He loved his family so well and so deeply and he will be greatly missed by many.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and his brother Jeff. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Donna, daughters Holli Hughes (and husband Curtis) and Courtni Tresemer (and husband Tom), grandchildren Jackson Hughes and Madeline Hughes, mother Bettye Mills, niece Ashley Bell (and husband Jeremy) and nephew Allen Mills (and wife Alex).
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, July 25 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The family will hold a private interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to UpStream Ministries are appreciated to further the work and outreach of his ministry. Donations can be made in person at the memorial service or online at:
