Jennie Lucille Viers passed away peacefully at her home in Cumming, Georgia on May 20, 2024. Jennie was born on Châteauroux-Déols Air Base in France on April 14, 1960. She was the daughter of a career U.S. Army officer and his wife and the family moved many times as Jennie grew. During all the moves, Jennie and her family frequently returned to Stone Mountain, which was home to her mother’s extended family. The family eventually settled in the Sandy Springs area and Jennie graduated from North Springs High School. She attended North Georgia State University, graduating in 1982, and went on to earn a master’s degree and several certifications in education.
Jennie had a lifetime career as an educator, mostly as a classroom teacher, but also as a college instructor, school administrator and software company representative. She enjoyed her students and invested time in mentoring them and assisting with extracurricular activities. She coached cheerleading teams and most recently sponsored the robotics team at Roswell High School.
Jennie was also a skilled artist, using glass as her medium. She happily spent hours meticulously crafting plates, bowls and other objects and she had an enthusiastic group of friends who joined her in this pursuit.
Jennie was an avid traveler, pleased to go on quick getaways or exciting adventures. She traveled to Russia, France and other European and Caribbean countries. She also traveled extensively in the United States, making long trips to Alaska with her friend, Tracye, and to numerous places in the American West to visit her father’s extended family.
Jennie is preceded in death by her mother, Nita McCurdy Viers, and her father, Ray Viers, and is survived by her sister, Ann Viers, and her brother, Mac Viers. Also surviving her are her nieces and nephews: Nick & Kara Taylor, Stephen & Lindsey Taylor, Madeline & David Diaz, Eugene Viers and Sasha & Louie Aponte, as well as eight great-nieces and nephews. Further, she is survived by her aunt, Mary Ann Hunt and her uncles, Lyle Viers and Galen Hunt. She will be missed by her family and her many friends.
There will be a visitation with family and friends at Wages & Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain on Saturday, June 8th, from 5:00 to 7:00. The funeral will be held at Stone Mountain United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 9th, at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Roswell High School Robotics Club, Forsyth County Arts Alliance, Labrador Friends of the South or the charity of your choice.

I miss you, my friend. UNO!
It just isn’t the same without you! I miss you my friend.
I just met Jennie last year through robotics. She was a kind passionate woman. She was always available to help me out with ideas and recommend a new author for my drive. She will be deeply missed.
Jennie was my dance partner! We joked about that because we would end up being silly/dancing and joking standing in the hall waiting and watching students. We worked together at Gainesville Middle School. She was a blast! I will miss her!
