Joanne Conrath Birdwell

Joanne Conrath Birdwell, age 77, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was born on March 28, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan. Daughter of the late Fred and Nancy Conrath. She was preceded in death by her husband and longtime sweetheart, Jesse Walter Birdwell, of 51 years.

Joanne was a graduate of Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and attended Mercer College. Joanne’s career in the Broward County School system began in the 1970s and spanned more than 30 years, having worked her way up from a teacher’s aide, to a principal’s secretary and as an executive secretary. Joanne was fondly loved and admired by her coworkers throughout her career.

Joanne is survived by her daughters, Anne Newman Slater and Debbie Nabulsi along with their husbands. She had 6 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was lovingly called “MeMaw”.

Joanne had a smile that lit up a room with a bubbly personality to match. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Joanne and Walter’s ashes will be spread together by immediate family at a later date in a location they both loved.
