Norma Mercedes Penland, age 73, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at her residence in Suwanee, GA. Norma was born on April 19, 1951, to her parents, the late Guillermo and Norma Cajigas in Puerto Rico. She was raised in El Paso, TX. She was a graduate of Austin High School and attended UTEP. Norma lived many years in Tucker, GA as well as Suwanee, working in the banking industry. Norma was very outgoing and friendly to everyone she met. Her radiant smile lit up any room she walked into. She loved to cook and entertain guests at her home.
Norma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Randolph “Randy” Penland Sr.; daughter Elizabeth Ramsay of Dawsonville, GA; son Randolph Penland Jr (Allison) of Alpharetta, GA; sisters Ida and Vilma Cajigas and brother Guillermo Cajigas (Adela) all of El Paso, TX; sister-in-law Carol Harris (Bob) of Athens, AL; and brother-in-law Ed Penland (Debbie) of Griffin, GA. Later in life, her greatest joy was becoming “Grandma” to Mallory Fitzpatrick (Kody) of Butte, MT, Evelyn and Alexander Penland of Alpharetta, GA, as well as her great grand-daughter Oaklynn Fitzpatrick of Butte, MT. She is survived by many nephews and a niece as well. A Celebration of Life service is being planned in Spring.
