It is with profound grief and sorrow that we inform you of the passing of the incomparable Premchand Tejshi Shah. He was fondly known to many as Prembhai — a name that literally means ‘love,’ and that captures the pure, unconditional love that characterized the entirety of his life and person.
Born on July 11, 1941, Prembhai was originally from the Village Bada in Kutch (India). He was a pioneer in the Shah family — the first to build a life in the U.S. and make the American dreams of his brothers and sisters a reality in sponsoring their citizenship. This was but a single, profound testament to the generosity and kindness he showered upon others his whole life. It was this same love we could taste in his favorite mango sherbert and famed Hawaiian punch; that we could see in his smile when he had a winning hand at Wednesday Card Club. It is this same dedication we saw to his Jain faith and our community at large; to the grandchildren he completely and utterly adored, Ariyana and Dylan.
Prembhai completed a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from Usmania University in India and a Masters in Science in Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He utilized his degrees to have many engineering roles throughout his esteemed career even helping multiples temples with their constructions. Ever a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and brother-in-law, he leaves behind him a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love that will live on for generations.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Chandrika Prem Shah, son Sumeet (Sonia), grandchildren Ariyana and Dylan; Also surviving is his brother, Amrat (Meena), sister in law Ranjan and on his wife’s side, brothers in law Naren (Kusum), Nitin (Pravina) and sisters in law Leena (Suren) and Varsha (Suresh). He has many nieces and nephews all around the USA and India.
It is hard to capture the essence of such a person who has impacted so many in the wonderful lifetime he lived. To celebrate his 81 years of life and the beginning of the heavenly journey of Premchand Tejshi Shah, we invite you to join us:
