Richard Allen Johnson, of Smoke Rise, GA, passed away on April 17, 2025 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and two days, following a series of health issues.

Born October 15, 1945 in Waukegan, Illinois, Richard was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Edna Mae Johnson and his sister, Gail Radtke. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Diana Johnson of Fort Worth, TX, numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

A graduate of Purdue University, with a degree in industrial engineering, he was the 42nd person in the nation to earn the designation of Certified Turnaround Professional. and was recognized as an expert witness in the area of air quality.

A member of Mensa society, he was a man of many talents. In high school, he sang, played clarinet and sax, and had major roles in a local theater group. Growing up on the Fox river in McHenry Illinois, he loved swimming, water skiing, and boating. Following his graduation from college, he would discover a love for flying and earn his twin engine pilot’s license.

He has owned construction companies, nursing homes, golf courses, and, as a CTP, helped many to turn struggling businesses around. But he found his greatest passion in championing improved air quality – founding Air Allergen Mold Testing, Inc. in 2004 and doing pro bono work as an expert in air quality. He remained active until the end as a man committed to excellence and the betterment of others.
