RUTH ELLEN GOOLSBY SMITH ROYALS OF MCDONOUGH, GA. PASSED AWAY JANUARY 24, 2013 AT THE AGE OF 98. RUTH WAS BORN IN HAZELHURST, GA. JEFF DAVIS COUNTY TO JAMES CALLAWAY AND MARGARET ELIZABETH DAVIS GOOLSBY. RUTH IS SURVIVED BY HER DAUGHTER, JANICE ELIZABETH SMITH BANISTER RONALD AND SON, GREGORY R. SMITH, 8 GRANDCHILDREN, 14 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, AND 1 GREAT GREAT GRANDSON. RUTH WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBANDS, WILLIAM O. SMITH AND CARLTON G. ROYALS, TWO DAUGHTERS, SONYA A. SMITH AND JUDITH S. SCHMIDEL AND 13 SIBLINGS. RUTH WORKED FOR 20 YEARS WITH TERMINAL TRANSPORT TRUCKING COMPANY AND KROGER BEFORE RETIRING. RUTH FORMERLY LIVED IN ATLANTA AND HIAWASSEE, GEORGIA BEFORE MOVING TO MCDONOUGH, GA. RUTH LOVED HER CHURCH, ALL OF HER FAMILY, AND HER VEGETABLE AND FLOWER GARDENS. FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH, MCDONOUGH, GA., JANUARY 29, 2013 @ 1:00 P.M. BURIAL WILL BE AT LOCUST GROVE CEMETERY. My favorite memory of you, was our day’s camping and fishing in the dark off the bridge. And how you like to sing those old songs, that always had a story to them. I will cherish those memories of you.
You will be greatly missed Maw Maw. I will always treasure our special times together as I was growing up. I love you!
MawMaw was the strong woman in my life, who set a living example of getting back up when life knocks you down. When I have faced difficulties in my life, I’ve looked at what she had faced. I can’t compare my strength to that of hers. I know that if she could work multiple jobs to raise her children alone, if she could drive a stick shift with a broken leg, if she could keep moving forward despite the obstacles, then at the very least I could try. She was the one who led me by example to be brave and know that strength comes from within. For that I am Grateful.
