Sushma Sharma

April 2, 1959 — June 25, 2024

Sushma Sharma passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, at the age of 65 in Cumming, GA. Those that knew her best describe her as someone who lived ten lives in the space of one. She took on her cancer diagnosis with that same strength and courage. The impact of her community building does not end with her life. The fruits of her labor will live on for decades to come.

Sushma’s zest for life could not be contained in just one place, and her adventurous spirit took her around the world. From her birthplace in Jiwana, India, she went on to live in Delhi, Mumbai, Toronto, Dubai, Singapore, and New York City, before settling in Georgia in 1989. Energetic and enterprising, Sushma was a true exemplar of the American dream, building multiple successful businesses from the ground up. She established the Taj of India restaurant in the mid-nineties, a staple in Marietta that served traditional North Indian cuisine. In 2007 she ventured into real estate, where she found great fulfillment in serving her community, connecting families with their dream homes, and advocating for the needs of Southeast Asians.

Her advocacy work extended beyond just her job: Sushma was a passionate voice for survivors of domestic violence. She went beyond fighting on their behalf, opening her home to many who needed a safe place to stay. She sheltered others using her own roof and resources.

Sushma is survived by her beloved son Jeetu, aged 40, and deeply missed by her family and friends. We cherish her from the memory of her silly puns, the way she shared her tiramisu out of necessity instead of obligation, the pani puri that had to be dunked, the beautiful gardens she grew, the communities she built, and her unbridled enthusiasm for charitable work.
