Sylvia Hall McEver, formerly Sylvia Clarke Hall, passed away on August 7, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on January 18, 1937, in Thomson, Georgia. Sylvia’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
The youngest of four sisters, Sylvia’s life was marked by her curiosity and passion for learning. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia and was the first person in her family to earn a college degree.
Sylvia’s professional path ultimately led her to SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories in Atlanta, Georgia where she served as a Lead Microbiologist Lab Technician. Her work ethic, expertise, leadership, and friendship left an indelible mark on her coworkers. After years of dedicated service, she retired in 1999.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sylvia’s faith and values were an integral part of her life. As a devoted Christian, she found strength and solace in her faith in Jesus Christ. Her faith guided her actions and she lived her life with grace, compassion, and a deep sense of purpose.
Sylvia’s role as a wife, mother, grandma, and friend highlighted her character. She embraced these roles with boundless love and warmth, leaving an enduring impact on those fortunate enough to know her. Bill McEver, her husband of 63+ years, Mike McEver, her son, and Paige McEver, her daughter-in-law were all recipients of her love and guidance.
Sylvia’s role as a grandmother brought her immense joy. Her three grandchildren, Corbin, Carsen, and Kinsey held a special place in her heart and she delighted in their laughter, achievements, and milestones.
Sylvia’s character was defined by her selflessness. She had an innate ability to make others feel valued, loved, and appreciated. Her kindness knew no bounds and her acts of compassion and service impacted the lives of those around her. Her legacy is one of generosity, perseverance, and a steadfast commitment to making the world a better place.
A visitation to honor Sylvia’s life will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse in her name as a tribute to her selfless nature and commitment to serving others.
