Winsome Margaret Thomas, age 72, passed peacefully away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Emory University Medical Center, Atlanta, Georgia. She was born July 8, 1948 in Kingston to Woodrow and Thelma McGhie. At age 9 she earned a full scholarship to Wolmers Girls High School where she made many lifelong friends. She subsequently received her O Levels and graduated from Holy Childhood High School. After graduation, Winsome initially worked at an insurance company, then became one of the inaugural class of flight attendants for Air Jamaica Airlines, where she displayed her signature knack for charming people and her resourcefulness in tense situations. In 1968 she married Peter Thomas and then subsequently left Air Jamaica to nurture her sons. In later life she became involved in real estate and business administration. As a long-term member of the International Lions Club, she was a strong supporter of their community outreach activities and held offices as Fundraising Committee Chairperson and President as well as that of general member.
No one who met Winsome forgot her infectious warmth and generous spirit, her love of family, friends, style and fashion. She was as winsome as her name with an exceptional ability to reach others, even total strangers, in a warm and personable way because of her interest in people and the world.
Winsome was talented amateur artist, sociable, a larger-than-life personality, a joy and bright light to her extended family and many friends around the world. We are bereft at the loss of that light. She is survived by her mother, her sons, Andrew and Richard, her grandson, Maxim, three sisters, and many nieces, nephews and grandnephews. After cremation, her life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service July 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
