Alan Dwight Craig, age 68, passed away on May 15th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Aiken, South Carolina on July 31st, 1957, he was the son of Dwight and Marguerite Craig, both of whom preceded him in death. Alan grew up in Gwinnett County and graduated from Central Gwinnett High School in 1976, where he formed lifelong friendships.
He married his high school sweetheart, Vicki Craig, and together they shared 46 years of marriage. They raised two daughters, Stephanie and Tiffany, and he was a proud grandfather to Alan and Lily Weilnau, who brought him immense joy.
Alan served his country in the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1979 at the rank of Lance Corporal. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, serving faithfully for over 25 years and retiring in 2009 as a Captain.
In retirement, Alan enjoyed life at his lake house in Wedowee, Alabama, where he found peace in the simple pleasures of boating, golfing, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. He was also deeply patriotic, carrying an unwavering love for his country throughout his life. Alan will be remembered for his steady presence, his devotion to family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Craig; children Stephanie Weilnau (Eric) and Tiffany Jackson (Josef); grandchildren Alan and Lily Weilnau; siblings Nan Waldrip (Kenny), Joel Craig (Patricia), Laura Gay (Larry), and Angela Smith (Todd); and many nieces and nephews.
