Allen D. Willis, Jr. passed away in the care of family on 6/24/2017. He was born in Nashville, TN in 1922. Willis; Son, Dudley Willis; Daughter, Karen Willis; Granddaughter, Savanna Willis; Brother, Buford Willis of Dickson, TN, Sisters, Ann Mifflin and Rae Kemp of Nashville, TN.
Allen was a U.S. Army Air Corps combat veteran during WWII. He became part of a B-17 bomb crew stationed in Foggia, Italy. He was a radio-operator-gunner, and flew combat missions over Western Europe, some of which were accompanied by the Tuskegee Airmen. For a full accounting of Allen’s wartime experience, see booksie.com/comfotman.
The war experience opened Allen’s eyes to social and economic injustice. He always felt indebted to the Tuskegee Airmen, and was offended by the racial prejudice those heroes were subjected to. Back in the U.S., African Americans were not being afforded opportunities in employment enjoyed by others. Throughout his career with CWA he worked to improve the lives of all working men and women. It was his passion that all should be given fair opportunity, and he dedicated his life to this belief.
