Amegie Undie passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2012 of complications resulting from autoimmune hepatitis. Amegie was born on August 12, 1989 in Decatur Georgia, to Dr. William and Emma Undie
Amegie attended St. Thomas More Catholic School and St Pius High School in Atlanta Georgia, before proceeding to Oxford College and Emory University, majoring in neuroscience and clinical psychology. During this period, Amegie showed incredible strength, tenacity and courage in her educational pursuit while battling the debilitating effect of her illness.
A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives. Although Amegie's life was cut short by death, she left an indelible mark on many people because of her involvement in various enrichment activities. Her talent and love for science, music and acting and her academic pursuits were fuelled by an intense desire to know more and to improve her skills and extend her abilities.
While at St. Thomas More, she distinguished herself in chorus activities, as well as winning awards in The Science Olympiad Regional Tournament competition, and Duke University Talent Identification program for gifted children. At St Pius High School, Amegie played prominent roles in the Pius Players and made the Honor roll numerous times and was inducted into the National Honor Society. Singing in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church children's choir was Amegie's passion, along with acting in plays organized by the church such as the "Sound of Music" and "Peter Pan".
Amegie volunteered her talent many times as a counselor in the Atlanta Young Singers summer camp at Cloudland Georgia, mentoring aspiring young singers. She also volunteered her time tutoring math and english to children from under privileged families while she attended oxford college
With confidence and self-esteem beyond her years, Amegie was happy to laugh at herself at times. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her laughter and fun-filled personality kept her friends laughing hysterically. The hearts of those most dear to Amegie are breaking because they are filled to the brim with the love she inspired. There are no trophies or medals to represent this love, yet it is without a doubt Amegie's greatest achievement.
No one could have predicted the tragedy that took Amegie's life; it is as if she lived her life like someone who understands that time is precious. She learned, laughed and loved with all the energy she could muster. There were no wasted moments but a life that, though brief, was full and remarkable. To everyone here today I thank you for the opportunity to offer these words in celebration of a wonderful young girl, Amegie Undie.
Amegie is survived by her parents, Dr. William and Emma Undie; siblings- Ashley and Jonathan; grandmother- Eucharia Adie; several uncles, aunts, nieces and cousins
Her memories will be cherished forever.
