Amelia Ellen (Amy) Kitchens

February 12, 1960 — July 26, 2024

Amelia Ellen (Amy) Kitchens, 64, formerly of Chamblee, GA passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, following an extended illness.

Amy was born in Atlanta, GA on February 12th, 1960. Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert McMillan Kitchens and Jo Ellen Kitchens.

Amy is survived by brother Robert Mark (Tiffany) Kitchens, nephew Seth Kitchens and goddaughter Sydney Stone-Smith.

Amy was a dedicated scholar and loved to learn. She was a graduate of Chamblee High School where she made lifelong friends while playing on the basketball team. She attended Western Kentucky University where she earned a BA in advertising with a minor in economics. She later earned a master’s degree from The Georgia School of Professional Psychology.

Amy was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She will be remembered for her inquisitive mind, sweet spirit, sense of humor and love of York Peppermint Patties.

Amy enjoyed many activities including gardening, photography and music. However, Amy was at her happiest when on a long run. She ran the Peachtree Road Race every year and even completed the Atlanta Half Marathon. She was an active member of the Atlanta Track Club where she participated in and volunteered at many events. Amy was recognized as a Volunteer All-Star and was featured in Wingfoot Magazine.

We rejoice knowing she has completed her final race.

A service will be held on Monday, July 29th, 2024, at the Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Orr officiating. A private burial will be held at Sandy Springs UMC Historical Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Ivy Springs Manor (formerly The Retreat at Buford) and Capstone Hospice for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atlanta Track Club Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) or the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) at Emory University (where research is being conducted on Fronto Temporal Dementia).
