Barbara Jean Rettie

Barbara Jean Rettie, age 84, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Born on July 29, 1942, in Queens, New York, Barbara later made her home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she was deeply loved and cherished by her family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Rettie; her mother, Mary Teschmacher; her father, Charles Teschmacher; her brother, Gerard Teschmacher; and her sister, Carol Teschmacher.

She is survived by her loving sons, Robert Rettie and his wife, Beth Rettie, and James Rettie and his wife, Monique Rettie. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Alec Rettie and his wife, Theresa Rettie; Branden Rettie and his significant other, Sophie Skelton; Samantha Orfei and her husband, Adam Orfei; Tiffani Rettie and her significant other, Mauricio Fuentes; and Kimberly Mau and her husband, Ryan Mau.

Barbara’s memory will live on through her great-grandchildren, Matthew, Hunter, Zayden, Proxi, Gabriella, Amelia, and Rose, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who cared for and loved her.

Barbara never considered herself old and always enjoyed spending time with a younger crowd. She loved being the center of attention and brought warmth, energy, and personality wherever she went. In her younger years, she was an avid horseback rider, and she carried that same spirited nature throughout her life. She had a special love for animals, and they loved her right back. One of her greatest joys was playing with her great-grandchildren, who kept her young at heart and even encouraged her to try her hand at video games.

During the last 12 years of her life, Barbara was lovingly cared for by her granddaughters, Tiffani and Kimberly, and her granddaughter-in-law, Sophie. Together, they created countless cherished memories that will remain close to the family’s heart.

Barbara will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Robert Rettie, at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York, on a date to be determined. A celebration of life for family and friends in Georgia will be announced at a later date.

Barbara’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
