With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Bernadette “Bern” Marie Maurer, who left this world on February 24, 2025, just days after celebrating her 78th birthday. Born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Bern later made her home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she spent her life devoted to her family, friends, and community.
A graduate of Scott Senior High School, Bern dedicated her early years to being a homemaker, nurturing and supporting her family with unwavering love. Later, she found fulfillment in her work with the Octorara Area School District, where she made a lasting impact before retiring after more than 20 years of service.
Bern was known for her caring and benevolent spirit. She had a gift for making everyone feel loved, cared for, and important. Her home was always open to visitors—the more, the merrier—and she cherished staying connected with friends and family through phone calls and emails. A talented needle pointer, crocheter, and candy maker, she poured love into everything she created. She rarely missed a baseball game when her grandson was on the field, always cheering from the stands with pride.
Bern’s kindness extended beyond her immediate family—she touched the lives of many. Even in her passing, people from the community she once called home have shared stories of her generosity, warmth, and the positive impact she had on their lives.
She is survived by her beloved husband, C. Raymond Maurer; her loving children, Michelle Cochran (Hank), Danielle Dornsife (Rob), and Raymond Maurer (Carolyn); and her adoring grandchildren, Ross Cochran, Rob Dornsife, Derek Dornsife, and Tyler Maurer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Helen Zazzara, and her brother, Guy “Sonny” Zazzara.
A celebration of Bern’s life will be held on March 7, 2025, at Hebron Baptist Church. The family will receive guests at 12:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bern’s honor to Hebron Baptist Church.
Bern was devoted, nurturing, and endlessly supportive—a woman whose laughter, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
