Betty Jeanne Barlow

January 11, 1933 — July 22, 2018

Betty Jeanne Barlow of Shaun Lane, Blairsville, Georgia passed away July 21, 2018. Betty, the daughter of the late Richard E. Tollison & Ruby Cothran Tollison, was born in Anderson, South Carolina. She lived in Decatur, Georgia with husband Ernest L. Curry and worked for Internal Revenue Service as a criminal investigator for many years. Several years after Ernest passed, she was blessed to meet and marry Reverend Maxwell E. Barlow. They resided in Stone Mountain Georgia for many years, and later relocated to Blairsville, Georgia. After his death, Betty chose to remain in the North Georgia Mountains, surrounded by their majestic beauty. Betty was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord, her family and friends and demonstrated that love on a daily basis. Her strength through life’s adversities provided everyone around her a shining example of the power of prayer, positive thinking and perseverance. She will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her, but we find strength in knowing that she is at peace and is rejoicing in her heavenly home. Betty loved flowers and bird watching. She enjoyed collecting antiques and perfume bottles. She was a talented self-taught piano player and in younger days played the steel guitar. She was a huge dog lover and had a particular soft spot in her heart for her dog Buttons. For many years, she was an active member at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia. There she served on the Staff Parish Relation Committee and was also President of the United Methodist Women. After moving to Blairsville, she was an active member at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a Stephen Minister and served on the Board of Trustees. Brothers Ligon, Richard and Ernest Tollison preceded Betty in death. Surviving Betty are children Randy Curry & wife Bobbi, Lisa Curry Heffner & husband John, Rebekah Barlow Bowers & husband Brook and Deborah Barlow Ponzio & John, Margorie & Mildred Tollison, Edward & Toni Lindler, Reverend Eugene & Jolene Barlow, Frank Barlow, Rachel Barlow, and many nieces, nephews & cousins. Betty was blessed with six loving grandchildren and 9 beautiful great grandchildren, whom she was extremely proud of. Additionally, she was blessed with many wonderful friends she treasured dearly. A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris on August 16th at 11:00 o’clock. Reverend David Tinsley, Reverend Eugene Barlow, Reverend Robert McDaniel and Jim Barker, Director of Ministry Care will be officiating. Special music performed by Pam Leslie and Angela Holloway and members of Fellowship Sunday School will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty’s name to Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church or to Blairsville Humane Society’s Mountain Shelter.
