Betty Biffle Smith

November 19, 1932 — March 13, 2026

Stone Mountain

With deep respect and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Betty Biffle Smith, a beloved daughter of Benjamin and Mattie Biffle of Stone Mountain, Georgia, who left us on March 13, 2026. Born on November 19, 1932, Betty’s life was a testament to love, devotion, and community spirit.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Stone Mountain, a place she cherished dearly and proudly called home. She graduated from Stone Mountain High School in 1951, and her career journey reflected her steadfast connection to the city she loved. During the 1950s, Betty worked as a switchboard operator at Continental Insurance. In the 1960s, she served as a cashier at 5 and 10 Sessions in Stone Mountain. Later, from the 1970s through the 1990s, she was employed as a packer at Sears Distribution. Her dedication and work ethic left an enduring mark on each role she embraced.

Known for her loving, caring, family-oriented, and outgoing personality, Betty was equally cherished for her warm hospitality and open heart. She welcomed everyone into her home, making friends and family alike feel valued and at ease. Her many friendships throughout Stone Mountain reflected her generosity of spirit, and she was notably one of the few to ride on the last streetcar to leave Stone Mountain, a symbol of her deep-rooted connection to her community and hometown.

Beyond her career and friendships, Betty found joy in simple pleasures such as shopping, camping in the mountains, relaxing at the beach, and attending the breakfast club at Hardee’s. She was a devoted member of the Stone Mountain First Baptist Church, where she nurtured her faith and fostered fellowship.

Betty is survived by her cherished family: her daughters and sons-in-law, John and Elaine Puckett and Bill and Penny Halabi; her grandchildren, Saleem (Dianna) Halabi, Ryan (Leslie) Halabi; and her great-grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas, Nora, and Ethan. Their lives were touched deeply by Betty’s unwavering love and guidance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith; her sisters, Bonnie Cannon and Ann Ledbetter; her brothers, David, Ernest, and Buck Biffle; and her parents, Mattie Ferguson Biffle and Benjamin Biffle. Their memories live on through those who knew and loved Betty.
