Betty Haynie Jordan, a lifetime resident of Stone Mountain Georgia, died Friday, September 30th at home. Betty was the daughter of Jessie McCurdy Haynie and Catherine VanWagner Haynie. She was the loving wife of Hugh S. Jordan. Born November 26, 1923 in Stone Mountain, Georgia, Betty attended Decatur High School and Graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1944. In 1943, Betty married Hugh S. Jordan, also from Stone Mountain. Betty was an active member of the Community serving as President of the Stone Mountain Women’s Club and actively participating in several “improvement projects” throughout the years. She was a member of Stone Mountain United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a involved in many children’s projects and events. Betty loved to play bridge and was a master level contract bridge player. She was an avid gardener and a prolific reader. Betty is survived by her husband, Hugh, five children, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Per Betty’s request, a public memorial service will not be held. For anyone wishing to remember Betty, donations to the American Alzheimer’s Association would be welcome.
