Bobby Everett Wilson, age 80, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014.
He was born on June 6, 1934 in Rockmart, GA, son of the late Thomas Elbert Wilson and Rushie Williams Wilson. He was a graduate of the Rockmart High School class of 1952 and attended West Georgia College. Bobby faithfully served Georgia Power Company for over 30 years in multiple capacities, joining the Company as a lineman’s helper and ultimately rising to an executive position in the Sourcing department. He later worked for Citizens & Southern Bank (later Bank of America) and retired in 1990. Bobby stayed active during retirement, serving as President of the Georgia Power Ambassadors North Metro chapter for many years. He was also very active in fundraising and volunteer work for many charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
Bobby was a member of Rockmart Lodge #97 for 60 years and attained the rank of Master Mason. He was a part-time Official in College Football and in the National Football League and for many years during his younger years. Bobby enjoyed traveling, sports and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Sampson Wilson; sons Steve Wilson of McDonough, GA; Michael Wilson of Atlanta, GA and Andy Wilson of Milton, GA; daughter Laura Wilson Mattox of Milton, GA; sister Betty Mathews of Stockbridge, GA; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 7 brothers: William Thomas Wilson, George Franklin Wilson, Lewis Elbert Wilson, Raymond McBryde (Mack) Wilson, Donald Richard Wilson, Charles Emory Wilson, and Carl Eugene Wilson; a sister, Sharon Faye Wilson; and a son, Malcolm Neal Wilson.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Eric Wilson, Nick Wilson, Alex Wilson, Greg Wilson, Allen Wilson and David Wilson.
The family will receive friends during visitation from 7 to 9 PM on Thursday August 28th at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy in Lawrenceville, GA. Funeral services will be held Friday August 29th at 11 AM at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy in Lawrenceville, GA with the Rev. Tony Hewatt officiating. A private burial has been planned.
Flowers will be accepted at Wages & Sons Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, or in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
